Cannes
The land of shopping, beach bars and the some of the best people watching. Younger James was very fond of Baoli, but there are also more subdue places in Juan Les Pins (including our venue, the Belle Rives) where you can rent a chaise and post up for the day with some Rose and a book (maybe).

Villefranche Sur Mer
A favorite of ours, heaped above an idyllic harbour, this picturesque village with imposing citadel overlooks the Cap Ferrat peninsula. The 14th-century old town, with its tiny, evocatively named streets broken by twisting staircases and glimpses of the sea, is a delight to amble. Villefranche offers a vision of small-town Mediterranean life that's totally unexpected so close to Nice.
